Some historical events pave the way for bigger events or facilitate them. The events that trigger each other this way sometimes dissociate because of the reasons and results they include and begin to present themselves as general by eluding themselves from certain temporal and geographical phenomenon. The relationship between the Khwarezm-Shah Dynasty and the Mongols as being the two great political power of the 13th century is among the above-mentioned phenomena.Even though the relationship between the aforementioned powers progressed during a certain period, subject and geography, it eventually overreached its borders and became an event that had profound effects on world history. Sultan Muhammed and Genghis Khan as being two great and distinguished leaders of two cultures overcame their surrounding powers and set their eyes on more profitable targets and this laid the groundwork for such relations. Although the diplomatically initiated relations at first seemed a win-win situation for both sides, the conflicts of interests and the preclusion of individual ambitions over mutual gains led the transformation of relations to military grounds from diplomatic field. In this way, the Mongol invasion headed towards Khwarezm lands and when the results are considered it affected the whole world by overreaching its borders. However, it is a historical reality that the Khwarezm-Shah Dynasty has suffered the most harm. Due to the unexpected transformation of such friendly relations to hostility, the empire has suffered a big blow and was dragged into downfall. Even though it is naturally unsuitable to think that the only reason for the downfall was the Mongol invasion, it can be said that the invasion is generally regarded as the main reason for the downfall of the Khwarezm-Shah Dynasty. In this study, the relationship between the Khwarezm-Shah Dynasty and the Mongols which was never approached as a subject for separate research before and the downfall of the Khwarezm-Shah Empire are explained through main sources and new data have consequently been obtained through different, new and detailed information.
