Vegetable-market solid wastes from urban areas and municipal wastewatertreatment plant (MWTP) sludge have increasing continuously. These types of wastesboth cause to fill the landfill quickly and affect stability of the landfill negatively. Sincestorage volume acquisition from landfill, composting is a good practice of solid wasteremoval system. Composting process is a good option related to these type of wastes.Vermicomposting is a different type of composting process that using worms forincreasing the process.Fruit and vegetable wastes and sludge using vermicomposting process weretaken from market areas and MWTP, respectively. Two different combination of fruitand vegetable wastes and sludge have been prepared with green yard waste. Fruit andvegetable wastes: green yard waste in 1:1 ratio (FVG), sludge: green yard waste in 1:1ratio (SG) were used for vermicomposting experiments. The effects of additives(vermicompost) and ventilation on decomposition rate of composting wereinvestigated of composting mixtures. Each pots includes 50 adult earthworms, EiseniaFoetida. Temperature, moisture, organic matter, pH, electrical conductivity, totalcarbon and total nitrogen were monitored during the composting process. In addition, worm number changes of the mixtures were determined. As a result of the study, it was concluded that vermicomposting was faster thandecomposition of organic matter compared to classical composting, and the result C /N ratio was more suitable to use as soil remedial material. Vermicomposting of thetwo different wastes found to be suitable for both cases. It has been shown that Bio-One additions have a positive effect on the acceleration of the process. It has beenfound that the process of recurcilation some of the leachate formed during thecomposting process is an advantageous situation. It has been determined that maturevermicompost extraction is an effective method. It has been concluded that theaddition of air to vermicomposting would be more beneficial in large volume reactorsthan small volume operations. It has been found that the rate of survival of worms(except ventilation conditions) is high. The positive results of the plant growth tests onthe final products in all cases may indicate that the products will not cause any toxiceffect in the use as soil conditioning material.
