In Turkey, giant projects has been implemented under the name of urban transformation. These projects opt to take the dwelling rights and more importantly the title rights of hundreds of thousands of human beings. A strong opposition can not be observed against such projects; on the contrary they seem to be supported by the majority. There can be found power organizations and power networks around these projects varying from the local governments to the highest authority of the state, from the ministries to the most powerful institution that is directly reporting to the prime ministry. This power can be observed in the demolition/construction authority given to the executive institutions by the related laws. This thesis examines this knowledge and the formation of this knowledge, thus the formation of the discourse that generates this sort of power. While doing this examination, in accordance with the Michel Foucault?s problematization model, the articulation, the truth discourses or veridictions, the fields of knowledge, the power discourses and the objects of thought are observed. The problematization that directs towards the urban transformation starts with the articulations by the scientific circles which present urban transformation as a solution of such, and which at the same time are the fields of knowledge, by the centers of political power and by popular sources. In the articulations that travel between the factual and ethical, the veridictions and truth discourses are used by all the groups especially the scientific circle which are also the fields of knowledge. As a result of these articulations the urban areas that are to be demolished are engendered as objects of thought. The power discourses about the ways of these demolishment and constructions defines the quantity and quality of the power units. According to Foucault, to transfer the experiences to some body else as his own experience to form a new subject, is called subjectification. The starting point of this process is to create an undesirable identity. The undesirable identity is the undesirable dwellers in this case (as in the gecekondu dwellers). Are the people with this undesirable identity subjectified, or there is a second subjecitification going on?.
