This study examines city image from the perspective of youths in Kağıthane, Istanbul. It has been arranged in five categories: (a) Image of Istanbul, (b) Image of Kağıthane, (c) discovering Istanbul, (d) experiencing Istanbul, and (e) Istanbul in recollections. In this study, visual sociology and qualitative research methods have been used together. Eighteen participants were interviewed in depth, made to draw cognitive maps, and take photographs. The maps and the photographs were analyzed using the methodology of visual sociology. The study's first chapter examines the notions of image, discovery, experience, recollections, and photographs. The second chapter introduces the method and techniques of visual sociology. The third chapter displays the fieldwork findings along with the interviewees' cognitive maps and photographs. The final chapter evaluates these findings and makes suggestions for further studies in the field. The results of the research suggest that places of consumption rather than production are prioritized more. Istanbul is understood to have a complex structure, and although this structure has been expressed as two distinct points, no one identified themselves with any one side. Youths were observed to adapt to the rapidly changing structure of Istanbul, getting accustomed to its changing skyline. Youths were also discovered to experience the city through work, and their images and experiences don't usually coincide. Places where images and experiences overlap are shopping malls and tombs. Also, taking photographs was observed to have a big impact on discovering and experiencing the city. Keywords: City image, Discovery, Experience, Recollections, Photography, Visual sociology.
