The goal of this research is to identify and minimize the causes that are generated inside the family and in surrounding circumstances, which lead to confiscation of the child for institutional care, and to identify what precautions could be taken in addition to already existing ones, and to contribute for `Return to Family` and `Support Near the Family` projects, and to support the children to get raised near their families. The sampling of the research is gathered from the private cases of 303 children, who are under the protection and care of 7 different institutions, provided by the Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Policies. Social Examination Reports, Incident Discussion and Process Reports, Informative Institutional Acceptance Forms and private files of the children, which created by the institutional staff, are used to gather data for this research. Data is compared by numbers, percentile average, and by using standard deviation. Shapiro Wilk-W test is used to verify if continuous variables correlate with the normal distribution. T-test is used to compare the continuous variables which correlate with the normal distribution. Categorical variables are analyzed with Chi Square Test. According to the results of this research, the number of male children which have been put under protection is greater than the number of female children. When the main reasons of children being put under protection are examined, economic deficiency, divorce of the parents have come forward as the main reasons, along with physical/emotional/sexual harassment as the secondary reasons. Keywords: Child, Child Needing Protection, Child Protection Law.

Veriler sayı, yüzde ortalama, standart sapma olarak kıyaslanmıştır. Sürekli değişkenlerin normal dağılıma uyup uymadığı Shapiro Wilk-W testi ile incelenmiştir. Normal dağılıma uyan sürekli değişkenlerin karşılaştırılmasında T- testi kullanılmıştır. Kategorik değişkenler Ki- Kare testi ile analiz edilmiştir. Yapılan araştırmadan elde edilen bulgularda, korunma altına alınan erkek çocukların kız çocuklardan daha fazla olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Çocukların korunma altına alınma nedenleri incelendiğinde ekonomik yoksunluk, ebeveynlerin boşanması ilk sıralardayken, ailenin fiziksel/duygusal istismarı/ cinsel istismarı ve ihmalin diğer nedenler olduğu tespit edilmiştirAnahtar kelimeler: Çocuk ,Korunmaya Muhtaç Çocuk, Çocuk Koruma Kanunu.
