ABSTRACT This study aims to evaluate the academical achievement of secondary high school teaching graduates who were educated in the programs for four or five years. Population of the study is composed of 389 of secondary high school teaacher education graduates of Balıkesir University, Necatibey Education Faculty between 2001 and 2003. All of the 389 graduates accepted to be the sample for this study and data on 319 graduates were collected. General Point Avarages (GPA) and Examination for the Selection of Public Servants (KPSS) scores of the graduates were recorded on the computer. Averages of the graduates with educational periods of four and five years were analysed by T test, and the differences between the groups were analysed by one way ANOVA analiysing method. LSD test determined the groups which had significant differences between. As a result of the subject data analysis it was concluded that the avarages related to teaching professional knowledge courses of the five-year educated graduates were higher than the GPAs of four-year educated graduates. No significant difference was spotted among their cumulative GPAs, and their GPAs of subject area and general knowledge. When the differences between the groups were examined, it was observed that the KMS (older version of Examination for the Selection of Public Servants) score averages and graduates net scores of KMS on the educational sciences test items differed from each other according to groups. Cumulative GPAs, subject area class GPAs, teaching professional knowledge courses GPAs and net scores of KPSS on the educational sciences test items of graduates with five-year education differed significantly from each other according to their group. Following recommendations were made based on the findings: 1. Research aimed at evaluating the academic achievement of the graduates that were established after the Re-Organization of TeachingFaculties' Teacher Education Programs of educational faculties of the elementary education teacher training branches may be conducted. 2. It might be useful for programs' academical staff to cooperate with each other and plan some studies so as to reduce the differences between the academic achievement of the programs. VI.

Beş yıl eğitim gören mezunların genel akademik not ortalamaları, alan derslerine ilişkin not ortalamaları, öğretmenlik meslek bilgisi not ortalamaları, KPSS'de eğitim bilimleri bölümünden cevapladıkları sorulara ait net sayıları arasında programlara göre anlamlı farklara rastlanmıştır.
