Covering the last decade of the `Turkish` cinema, this study is based on the fact that nationalism cannot be separated from gender. Accordingly it answers how nationalism and gender are articulated to each other in order to regenerate themselves. The distinctive feature of the `Turkish` cinema during the mentioned period is that the counter rhetoric features come side by side to each other in the earlier historical processes. This situation brought the `identity pluralism? as an extension of the discourse of struggle which started in the 1990s in Turkey and made the identities of otherness visible in politics and cinema. This study argues the movies which represent the reactions from different discourses against this visibility and those outstand with their heavy sexiest jargon. The basic thesis of this work is that nationalism generates sexism. The theoretical framework which makes possible this argument has two important keys. First one is the postmodernist and feminist approaches which make us see the axis of the gender of nationalism and the epistemological attitude of the postcolonial critique on knowledge and power, by removing nationalism from the conception of a political practice and by directing us to a multidimensional and cultural area. Second one is the discussion of ideology and cultural hegemony which discourages to see any social formation as a simple integrated structure. In this context, five movies -Gemide (Serdar Akar, 1998), as a sequel Laleli?de Bir Azize (Kudret Sabancı, 1998), Başka Semtin Çocukları (Aydın Bulut, 2008), Nefes: Vatan Sağolsun (Levent Semerci, 2009) and Güz Sancısı (Tomris Giritlioğlu, 2009)- will be analyzed by the discourse analysis method, and by this way this study will reveal through which facts and how nationalism and gender, re-produced by integrating (articulating) each other.
