No sufficient technical research pertaining to the pad printing system that is used in hundreds of enterprises in our country and made a very rapid entry in the printing sector. Therefore, various numbers of enterprises experience tangible and intangible losses within this process. As a consequence, it is considerably important to determine the optimum working parameters for a quality printing at the pad printing system. In order to solve the problems occurring in the application at the pad printing system by empirical ways and not to experience any losses from the point of view of the printing sector, it is necessary to know the technical specifications of materials to be printed, suitable pad, printing plate and ink, and examine and evaluate the same from the printability point of view. This is because the printing standardizations have been created in order to adopt various printing systems, used in the field of printing and parameters constituting the result of the printing, to the envisaged norms. However, no specific standardization that will bring all parameters affecting the quality into a conforming state at the printing machine in order to create a characteristic printing curve at the pad printing system has not been created. Therefore, it is necessary to know what kind of a method will be applied in variables such as the depths of micro varioles on the printing plate, temper of silicon pad, viscosity of the ink used, dot gain, ground shade density on printings, made over the under-printing materials and so on. Additionally, the adjustments of the printing machine in advance of and during the printing process are the other elements at secondary degree affecting the printing quality. All parameters, listed at this thesis, have been measured by calibrated measuring devices and optimum measurement data for a quality printing been brought to light. Some test printings have been made on different substrates in silicon pads bearing different hardness by preparing various test scales in different screening frequencies and taking printing conditions under control at the open reservoir pad printing machine. The printings have been compared in respect of visual and densitometric measurements. The interval of screening frequency appropriate to the surface structures of substrate that related test printings are made on has been determined. The tone values and effect of the substrate material relationship on the printing has also been determined as well. The ratios of the screening dot gain in lower, medium and higher screening shade values have been established. Optimum parameters of any positive-negative typefaces and writing lines in different sizes and tickness in respect of printing have been determined by making black-white and process colors printing over rough and smooth paper with the most appropriate screening frequencies.
