Water samples had been taken monthly from four station and surface, mid and deep layers of Lake Beyşehir between March and December 2007. The phytoplankton were identified and counted. Then, phytoplankton biomass was estimated from the measured cell size. Samples could not been taken between January and February 2008 due to the ice on surface. Water temperature, pH, Secchi depth and dissolved oxygen were measured. Total phosphorus and chlorophyll a was analyzed too.A total of 119 phytoplankton species from Bacillariophyta (42), Chlorophyta (48), Chrysophyta (1), Cryptophyta (4), Cyanophyta (9), Pyrrophyta (5) and Euglenophyta (10) were identified from samples taken Lake Beyşehir. Total phytoplankton biomass consisted of Bacillariophyta (53%), Chlorophyta (27%), Chrysophyta (3%), Cryptophyta (2%), Cyanophyta (10%), Pyrrophyta (4%) and Euglenophyta (2%). Mean values of TP, chlorophyll a and Secchi depth were measured as 10.43±0,37 mg/m3, 8.24±2.08 mg/m3 and 1.08±0.35 m, respectively. Dissolved oxygen was measured between 6.36±0.06 and 11.63±0.06 mg/l. pH varied between 7.80±0.01 and 8.92±0.01. Water temperature changed between 6 oC and 26 oC.During the research, Cyclotella meneghiniana and Aulacoseira granulata from centric diatome, Asterionella formosa, Cocconeis placentula, Cymbella affinis and Ulnaria acus from pennat diatome, Monoraphidium spp., Mougeotia sp. and Scenedesmus linearis from Chlorophyta, Dinobryon divergens from Chrysophyta, Cryptomonas marssonii, Rhodomonas lacustris from Cryptophyta and Merismopedia glauca from Cyanophyta were found frequently and they showed numerical increases in Beyşehir Lake. In the study period, phytoplankton biomass of Lake Beyşehir varied between 0.40±0.11 and 6.43±1.00 mg/l. According to the mean phytoplankton biomass (1.98±0.12 mg/l, lake was found as mesotrophic and within the limits of good ecological quality class. However, the increases of blue-greens and presence of eutrophy indicators pointed out the eutrophication.
