According to attachment theory, the form of attachment established with the mother/primary caregiver also affects the person's experience during adulthood. The aim of this study was to examine the attachment styles of young and adult women; in terms of sexual life qualities, sexual self-confidence and psychological symptoms. The sample of the study consisted of 423 women, aged 18-40 years. Experiences in Close Relationships Scale- II Revised, Sexual Quality of Life Questionnaire-Female(SQLQ-F), Sexual Self-Confidence Scale and Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) are used as measures. Correlational research method was used in this study. Independent sample t-test was conducted to test for differences in the quality of sexual life, sexual self-confidence, attachment styles and psychological symptoms of young and adult women. After the correlation between the scales was calculated, in order to determine the effects of attachment on other variables, multiple linear regression analysis was done. Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient shows that there is a significant relationship between all scales and sub-dimensions. Results showed that avoidant attachment doesn't significantly predict sexual quality of life, sexual self-confidence and psychological symptoms (anxiety, depression, negative self, somatization, hostility), while anxious attachment predicts sexual quality of life, sexual self-confidence and psychological symptoms in a significant level. This study is important that it shows how the mother and child attachment affects the female sexuality in adult life, from the perspective of the attachment theory.
