Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of ECC on carries formation in permanent first molars by comparing caries formation in permanent first molar teeth in patients whose oral health was improved either by undergoing comprehensive treatment under general anaethesia or by routine clinical procedures, with patients who had several carious teeth and whose oral health was not improved by any of the mentioned means.Material and Method: In this study, 90 patients were divided into three groups, each consisted 30 patients. Of the 90 partients, 44 were female and 46 were male. Patients' ages ranged between 6-9 (min-max) and the mean age was 7.38 ± 0.89. Group 1 consisted patients whose caries were previously eliminated under general anesthesia, Group 2 consisted patients whose carious primary teeth were not treated. Group 3 consisted of patients whose 80% of their dental treatment was completed by multiple routine clinical appointments. All patients experienced ECC and the dmf-t values were at least 5. For each patient, OHI-S oral hygiene scoring, dmf-t scoring, ICDAS scoring and DIAGNOdent Pen scoring for first permanent molars were done respectively. Results: In the group of patients whose primary teeth caries were not treated, the number of carious First permanent molars determined by ICDAS was significantly lower than the other groups (p˂0.05). There was no significant difference between groups in the number of carious permanent first molars determined according to DIAGNOdent Pen measurements. Also, no significant difference was found between the means of decayed first permanent molar teeths among the groups. Conclusion: In this study population, the results supported the fact that the elimination of primary teeth decay before the eruption of permanent teeth does not have an effect of reducing caries formation in permanent teeth.
