Liberalism is one of the most prominent political perspectives that is particularly widespread in the Western countries. Liberalism emerged in the 17th century, at the beginning of modern Europe. It was a period of free trade and political liberties that changed people's mindset. Turkey, a country receptive to the developments in the West, did not completely adopt liberalism but fulfills itsdevelopmental needs through constant attendance to its own conditions. Looking at the developments in the political history of Turkey, we can notice that Menderes governments are particularly important for the liberalization of the country. Adnan Menderes aimed at applying liberalism in Turkey as a political leader by his discourses andperspectives. Under Menderes' leadership, Democratic Party ruled for 10 years in Turkey and significantly marked the Turkish political life. During his government in power, significant economic improvements were achieved. The agriculture reform, increase in investments, prioritization of private sectors in industry, liberalization of foreign trades, legislation of social policies for workers are some of the major developmentsduring the Menderes governments. The rigid political structure in Turkey ended during that period, which could be characterized as one of the most significant developments within the history of the Republic. It was desired to abandon the statism policy in the single party period and liberalism was advocated. This thesis analyzes the impacts of Adnan Menderes' liberal political thoughton the socio-economic policies of the era. As a descriptive study, the results indicate that the first half of Menderes' era indicates significant improvements in the social and economic life. Nevertheless, it is harder to argue so for the second half of his rule. During the first half, Menderes defended the individual freedoms, free markets, press freedoms, and various other political rights. However, his popular support decreased due to worsened economic conditions that resulted in Menderes to abandon most of his liberal ideas- he resorted to the forceful power of the stateagainst the discontented public. As a result, he was subjected to the May 27th military coup. Keywords: Liberalism, Menderes, Democratic Party, Socio-Economic Policies.
