DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPUTER ADAPTIVE TESTING (CAT) SOFTWAREHadeel Mohsin Ibrahim AL-TAMEEMIErciyes University, Graduate School of Natural and Applied SciencesM.Sc.Thesis, July 2017Supervisor: Assist. Prof. Dr. Mete ÇELİK ABSTRACTComputer adaptive testing (CAT) combines science and technology to help deliver a targeted and secure testing experience. CAT adjust the testing process to an examinee's skill level dynamically by selecting appropriate testing questions. The difficulty level of the next question is selected based on the previously answered questions In this thesis, we develop computer adaptive testing (CAT) software. In this software after the first question, each question is determined based on the level of the student and in addition to that, the levels of the questions are estimated based on the answers of the examinees. The developed software has following properties, i) the software starts exams (e.g., tests) by selecting a average level question randomly, ii) exam continues based on the level (ability) of the examinee, and iii) during the exam, the level of the next question is determined based on the anwer of the examinee to the previous question. The developed software can be used for testing students and for evaluating candidates of professionals or applicants. Keywords: computer adaptive testing (CAT), computer based testing (CBT), online examination.
