Architectural design studios are original spaces of architectural education whichimplicates an education psychology including the basic principle of knowing-in-action. Thereis a continuous flow of knowledge that covers verbal and visual communication among theoccupants through the studio based educational system. In studios, several differentfunctions, unique to architectural education take place simultaneously. Simultaneoushappening of different functions create different design requirements, hence oblige to theflexible usage of space and a special acoustical environment having specific acousticalrequirements. In this study, acoustical comfort conditions related to the education methodsspecific to architectural design studios are analyzed and the noise control and room acousticparameters defining the proper acoustical environment are evaluated by the examinations. In the frame of the research objective, firstly the acoustical requirements in educationalbuildings are researched considering the functional similarities between studios andtraditional classrooms. Then, the acoustical relation between studios and open-plan spacesbased on the interconnecting and simultaneous happening of the functions is introduced.According to these data, acoustical requirements in architectural design studios aredetermined. In this context, one of the studios of Department of Architecture at AnadoluUniversity is examined/analyzed as a case study and evaluated from the point of view of theacoustical requirements specific to architectural design studios. These evaluations werecarried out by the help of the results of some measurements on the related parameters of thestudio besides the polls that were applied on the occupants of the architectural design studiosand the data that was collected by the results of investigations. Keywords: Architectural ..Education, .Architectural ..Design ..Studios, .Education..
