The aim of this research is to determine the effect of activity based teaching on students' academic achievement, attitudes and retention in mathematics compared to traditional teaching method in 7th grade mathematics. In this research, pre-test and post-test control group samples were taken from experimental patterns. This research was conducted with 80 students who study 7th grade in Yıldırım Secondary school in Nusaybin district of Mardin province in 2017-2018 educational year. The research mathematics lesson was realized in 4 weeks on the topic 'Operations with rational numbers'. In the study includes an experimental and a control group chosen with by unbiased sampling. Lessons were taught in the experimental group by activity based teaching method and in the control group according to traditional teaching method. Mathematics Achievement Test and Mathematics Attitude Scale as pretest and posttest are applied to experimental and control groups. In addition, to determine retention Mathematics Achievement Test is applied again. One way covariance analysis method was used to analyze the data obtained from achievement test and attitude scale. According to the study's results, there has been a statistically significant increase in the academic achievement, attitude and permanent learning of the experimental group students who took the activity-based education.

Bu araştırmanın amacı ortaokul 7.sınıf matematik dersinde etkinlik temelli öğretimin geleneksel öğretim yöntemine kıyasla öğrencilerin akademik başarısına, matematik dersine yönelik tutumlarına ve kalıcılığa etkisini belirlemektir. Bu araştırmada deneysel desenlerden ön test son test kontrol gruplu model kullanılmıştır. Araştırma 2017-2018 eğitim öğretim yılında Mardin ili Nusaybin ilçesinde bulunan Yıldırım Ortaokulunun yedinci sınıfında öğrenim görmekte olan toplam 80 öğrenci ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırma, matematik dersi `Rasyonel Sayılarla İşlemler` konusu üzerinde 4 hafta sürecinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmada yansız atama yoluyla seçilmiş bir deney ve bir de kontrol grubu bulunmaktadır. Dersler deney grubunda etkinlik temelli öğretim yöntemi ile kontrol grubunda ise geleneksel öğretim yöntemine uygun olarak işlenmiştir. Araştırmada deney ve kontrol gruplarına Matematik Başarı Testi (MBT) ve matematik dersine yönelik Matematik Tutum Ölçeği (MTÖ) ön test ve son test olarak uygulanmış olup kalıcılıklarının etkisini belirlemek için tekrar MBT uygulanmıştır. Başarı testi ve tutum ölçeğinden elde edilen verilerin analizinde tek yönlü kovaryans analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre uygulama sonunda etkinlik temelli eğitim alan deney grubu öğrencilerinin akademik başarılarında, tutumunda ve kalıcı öğrenmelerinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede bir artış olmuştur.
