Özet

In this particular research, the translation activity in the Republican Era of Turkey, which can be studied as part of the Anatolian translation tradition, which is traced back to the 13th and 14th centuries A.D., could be analyzed in three historical periods by close-reading the discourses on translation by the `literary actors` in the era: The Foundation of the Republic (1923-1939), The Translation Bureau Period (1939-1967), The Period Preceding Academic Translation Studies (1967-1979). When these discourses, the `self-description` of `the institution of translation` in the related periods, were elaborated from the perspective of fundamental linguistic elements and their functions in written communication, it was possible to reach conclusions that suggested that they significantly contributed to the process that led to the initiation of academic translation studies in Turkey by way of some sound ideas and translation terms that they produced and the discursive qualities that they displayed. Furthermore, this phenomenon seems to have occurred changing its form from a `vague` force into an `obvious` one in course of time.

Bu çalışmada, 13-14. yüzyıllarda başlayan Anadolu çeviri geleneğinin içinde, onun bir parçası olarak gerçekleştiği savlanan Cumhuriyet Türkiyesi çeviri etkinliği, `yazınsal aktörler`in oluşturduğu çeviri söylemlerinin izinden gidilerek, üç tarihsel dönemde incelenebilmektedir: Cumhuriyet'in Kuruluş Dönemi (1923-1939), Tercüme Bürosu Dönemi (1939-1967) ve Akademik Çeviri Çalışmaları Öncesi Dönem (1967-1979). Ait oldukları bu dönemlerindeki `çeviri kurumu`nun `özbetimleme`si olan bu söylemler, diğer bir deyişle, `sözcelem`ler, dilsel iletişimin temel öğeleri ve onların yazılı iletişimdeki işlevleri bakımından incelendiğinde, gerek içerdikleri etkili çeviri görüşleri ve ürettikleri çeviri terimleri gerekse ortaya koydukları söylemsel nitelikleriyle, Türkiye'de çeviri çalışmalarının akademik düzeye ulaşması sürecine zaman içinde `gizil bir güç`ten `aşikâr` bir güce dönüşerek katkı sağladıklarına ilişkin sonuçlara varılmıştır.
