This thesis explores consequential social policy problems of defamilizing childcare in other words non-maternal childcare, which is a byproduct of high rate of female employment. It aims to test the hypothesis that provided that the current national policy of raising female employment in Turkey continues to be followed, the country is going to face the social problems similar to those experienced in developed countries, which is a situation that is in discrepancy with the social policy goals adopted by Turkey. This research employs comparative, historical and analogical methodologies while through literature survey collects and examines data from national and international statistical works. In this work, the psychological problems associated with social and cognitive skills and subsequently related problems in adulthood are identified among the children who are raised in non-maternal childcare that is becoming widespread in developed industrialized countries. Should Turkey continue to implement policies geared to increase female employment and achieve the level of female employment parallel with developed countries, it is going to face the problems due to non-maternal care in industrialized countries, the research finds out. However, it points out that Turkey's social policy agenda does not address any of these problems nor develops any counter-policy. It is concluded that this creates a situation contradictory to the concept of a coherent society of individuals with well-developed living and working skills, and with high level of spiritual wellbeing, where children's best interest is served.
