Salsola turcica, S. boissieri subsp. boissieri and S. boissieri subsp. serpentinicola taxa are close relatives that prefer very different ecological conditions. It was aimed to determine the ecological adaptations causing the preferences of these different ecological conditions. For determination of their ecological adaptations, climatic conditions and edaphic characteristics of their distribution areas, their anatomical, morphological and physiological characteristics were studied. S. turcica has two ecotypes distributed over saline or gypsaceous soils. As a result of this study, eventhough they prefer different ecological conditions, they are morphologically and anatomically similar and can not be differentiated except for their soil preferences. The other two taxa are the subspecies of S. boissieri; S. boissieri subsp. boissieri and S. boissieri subsp. serpentinicola. They are mainly differentiated with their soil preferences, that S. boissieri subsp. serpentinicola prefers serpantine soils which normally cause stressfull conditions. Distribution area of S. turcica populations are more arid than the areas of both S. boissieri subsp. boissieri and S. boissieri subsp. serpentinicola. S. boissieri subsp. serpentinicola differentiated from the other subspecies with both soil preferences and reduced vegetative and generative organs. Serpentine soils, normally cause stressfull conditions but S. boissieri subsp. serpentinicola shows adaptations and the conditions do not cause any stress over this taxon. However, S. turcica and S. boissieri subsp. boissieri have high proline levels which is the indicator of stressfull conditions. It was thought that, the aridity and harsh soil condition cause this stress over S. turcica and aridity cause stressfull conditions over S. boissieri subsp. boissieri.
