SUMMARY The small and medium scale industrial campanies, like their counterparts through all over the world, regardless of which economical development phase they have been in, has kept their economical and social importances, and constituted a remarkable sector in determining the general politics and strategies. The people of the Customs Union Which started in 1996 between The European Community and Turkey was undoubtedly to gain positive developments in economy, industry and trading. And the aim of this study is to bring up what The Customs Union has made the small and medium scale industrial companies in our country gained or lost, and to which degree their needs have been met, and again, in a nut shell, to bring up what has been expended and what has been obtained. The study consists of three sections. Before all else, the subject of European Union that has engaged Turkey for a half century has been analyzed. European Union and its structure, its relations with Turkey and the scale of these relations, the content of the Customs Union which we could describe as the end of our adventure on the way to a full membership, and its effects on our country has been investigated thoroughly. In the second chapter, The small an medium scale industrial companies that poses a great significance for every country have been studied. That concept has been explained in general terms and the common problems of that sector have been brought up. In the last chapter in which the main theme of this study has been set forth, the positive and negative effects of Customs Union between Turkey and European Community on the small and medium scale companies that are operating in our country has been investigated and the necessary measures to be taken have been told. At last, the necessity of any kind of effort to integrate the small and medium scale companies into the milieu of competition by means of appropriate incitements and support have come on the scene. Because the incitements and supports supplied for the small and medium scale companies have proved to be insufficient. The small and medium scale companies need to use the necessary.
