Early Republican Period includes many movements aimed to create a new identity for the new republic. The Village Institutes had become an important experience that turns into a unique rural education system aiming a rural development. In time, the movement became one of the most organized extensions of the modernization movement towards the peasantry in Turkey. By 1948 the number of institutes reached 21. When the institutes were dissolved in 1954, settlements of the institutes started to change or become leftover places. İvriz Village Institute was opened in 1940, and it was built by the co-work of the institute's members according to the project obtained by a National Architectural Competition. Since the day the institutes were closed, education has been continuing in the site till today by changing form. However, most of the buildings belonged to the campus of the institute were left ruin. Campuses of village institutes are self-produced, multifunctional, and sustainable settlements that carry many tangible and intangible values like historical, educational, social, and commemorative. Many studies have been conducted in many fields since their closure, but there are fewer architectural studies and even lesser in the conservation field. With this study, it is aimed, to make an overall evaluation, about the values of institutes as heritage places, focusing on the İvriz Village Institute; understand the place with all its historical and contemporary components and aspects and based on these evaluations and develop conservation principles and strategies for its conservation and sustainability.
