Özet

The thing offered as `the path to truth` or `the method to the truth` by the modern throught, which has gradually manifest itself since the Fifteenth Century, is science. In this context, collapses of the classical worldviews, which were dominant in the first and middle ages, were the result of the increasing scientific activites. In this sense, science becomes the authoritarian power of the period. With the aim of finding a position for itself, Philosophy of this period was also affected by science. Attempts to employ a particular method to be in accord with science are clearly seen in Francis Bacon and René Descartes, which are the pioneers of modern thought. The efforts of both philosophers to find the true method to get true knowledge are considered quite valuable according to the conditions of their times. Empiricist views of the Bacon, who is regarded as one of the most perceivers of the new Worldview, and rationalist methodology of Descartes, who is known as a founding father of the modern philosophy, are crucial attempts in terms of the philosophy. This study aims to reveal the main factors constituting the empiricist approach of Bacon and rationalist methodology of Descartes.
