The period of Reza Shah, the founder of the Pahlavi Dynasty, which seized power in Iran in the first half of the 20th century, is an important period in many respects. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of the modernization program and the reforms realized in Rıza Shah Iran on Shiite clerical by using Social Historical Research method. Modernization attempts, which started to be seen in many Islamic countries in the same period, are based on different reasons and origins. In this context, this critical period of the Rıza Shah period in Iran, which has a special importance among Islamic societies, will be discussed. The reforms implemented during this period have played an important role within the scope of state policy. Western-style modernization policies followed in this period covering the period of 1925-1941 were effective in almost all socio-cultural fields, especially in education, law and economy. In this context, there are some features that differentiate the modernization of Pahlavi period from the reform efforts followed by the Kajar Dynasty which prevailed before it. The reform efforts of the Qajar dynasty aimed mainly to arbitrate traditional power, but did not have a very transformative effect on traditional social dynamics, especially on the position of the clerical. In contrast, the modernization efforts pursued during the Pahlavi period aimed at modernization and transformation in all social spheres because of its centralized and authoritarian structure.Rıza Shah's vision of modernization was influenced by the crisis that the country entered as a result of Russian and British interventions during the Qajar dynasty. Rıza Shah came to power with an Iranian ideal in which national sovereignty was established and coincided with Western values. In this context, the reasons of the modernization initiatives implemented during the Qajar period and what kind of reforms were made in this period, the anatomy of the innovations of the Rıza Shah period was tried to be drawn and the relationship between religion and power in Iran was tried to be explaned.During this period, the practices realized for the purpose of Westernization penetrated deeply into the cultural and social life. In addition to this, Persian nationalism and national economic development were given more place as a result of the situation created by the national emotions which were destroyed during the Qajar period due to the rising ideology of nationalism. In this context, it was aimed to create a uniform nationality around `Iranianism` consciousness in the country that accommodates different ethnic groups. As a continuation of this, it was aimed to serve the purpose of building a uniform nation through the studies on dress code and Persian language. In addition to these, the secular understanding brought about by various practices is an important point that affects the Shiite clerical which holds an important power from the past and limits its In this context, our study focuses on reforms that limit the effectiveness of Shiite clerical.
