The aim of this thesis is both to explain the understanding of affirmation of life according to Spinoza and Nietzsche and show the similarities and differences between the understandings of these philosophers. The affirmation for Spinoza is for every being to maintain the necessary force, that is to say effort (conatus) in order to continue its being. In this sense, the affirmation of life is to escape woeful emotions, to raise the power of action and understanding with effective joys, thus to see the essence of things and to reach the intellectual love of God. In this case, what is understood is in life there is nothing that can be judged according to the values beyond life. Everything happens by the absolute obligation of God, and everything is the part of God's infinity. For Nietzsche life is will to power. For the affirmation of life, one should escape trancendent and absolute values, dulling fantasies, morals that impoverish an individual and every fiction of truths that withstands morals. In this way, a human being can live effectively according to his own will to power and obtain creativity which reveals his/her full potential. For this, life should be affirmed with all its pain, its terrible and suspicious ways, briefly it should be affirmed as a whole. The highest state of affirmation of life intents to affirm pain, coincidence, defects, meaninglessness and all the problematic and alieanated parts of presence. So what is understood is that existence does not have anything which is not requiered. The claim of this thesis is Spinoza's philosophy includes some foresights to be found in Nietzsche's philosophy but as there is a difference between their perspectives regarding life, power, reason, will, emotions and death, there are significant differences in their understandings of the affirmation of life. Spinoza rejects the devaluation of this world, the inhibition of will to life, the discredition body and senses, the importance of morals, woeful emotions and memory. In these points they do not think the same but they come closer. Nietzsche does not accept an ethics which is to be found with reason beyond morals because reason does not have a common structure. To take risk is a must in order to face pain and for more power, for this reason he rejects a cautious life. For Nietzsche, unlike Spinoza, the affirmation of death is a part of the affirmation of life. The purpose of the affirmation of life, for Spinoza is related to the intellectual love of God and the status of serenity, but for Nietzsche a human being's love of his/her own fate so that to obtain the power to transform his/her own self. According to Nietzsche, Spinoza's philosophy reflects the reactive point of view. Because for Spinoza the affirmation of life is to be understood as everything to be a part of infinity, for that reason to be connected to know the truth but for Nietzsche it is related to creativity and transform life.
