This dissertation aims at exploring the causes of the existing current crises in both human and non-human worlds and searching for convenient solutions to find a way out of these catastrophes. The paper, firstly, draws on the theoretical background of the issue of ecological and social crises from eco-ethical, eco-philosophical, eco-Marxist and eco-socialist perspectives. The study, with reference to postcolonial and postmodern theories as well as Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy, the representative narrative allegories dealing with the terraforming of Mars, argues that escape from the apocalyptic future foreseen on Earth and terraformation of another planet is the future colonization, doomed to another apocalypse on another planet. The significance of this study is that it incorporates a variety of literary theories for the analysis of the diversified perspectives. The analysis indicates that the dialogical formation and the richness of the topics distinctively covered throughout the three books, Red Mars (1992), Green Mars (1993) and Blue Mars (1996), make it inevitable to use multiple theories for the inquiry. This study, foregrounding the distinctive tenets on the eco-ethical questioning of colonizing and terraforming of Mars through the multiple perspectives in the trilogy, reveals that the economic and political systems are identified as controlling forces of the relationship between culture and nature in the terraforming process as represented in Robinson's abovementioned narratives. Therefore, the study implies that the capitalist system is observed as the root of catastrophes and conceived as superannuated to be replaced with ecosocialism, a form of ecologically conscious system. The study additionally explores the issues of postcolonial scapegoating of `the Other` for the existing problems and discusses the inhuman solutions such as Neo-Malthusian logic. Finally, the study investigates the reflections of ecological science fiction narratives on reality, as in the Mars trilogy, from different topics such as utopian ideals and simulations of human transfer to another planet. According to the analyses, the dissertation concludes that the underlying ideology of the Mars trilogy presents a natural hope of Gaia theory and suggestions for a better future life for all living things promised to come with the radical social change of ecosocialism. Key Words: crises, Mars, colonialism, terraforming, eco-ethics, utopia, Gaia, ecosocialism.
