With the legal changes in 2008, broadcasting all tobacco products in television was banned in Turkey and the policing obligations were given to the Radio and Television Council (RTÜK). Subsequently, many conglomerates with various TV channels amongst their portfolio have created so-called `censorship` units within, to avoid the hefty penalties. This study reflects the endeavours of the researcher, who has worked in the private sector for three years as a censor in film regulation, to create a method from her experience, in light of the Pierre Bourdieu's self-reflexivity. The main focus of the study is to explore the question around the standardisation of films broadcast on TV; scrutinising these practices with participants currently working in censorship units in various establishments at various hierarchies. This study explores and answers the questions: Do the censorship practices diverge between different companies? Does the position of the censor in the hierarchical order in the company impact the execution? Do the labour market conditions effect the quality of work of the censor? How do the censors adapt to the fast-moving environment of censorship politics? How did the alcohol censorship converge with the existing practices? With the rise of digital broadcast platforms, what could be the future methods and consequences of creating personalised censorship profiles and custom-tailored film regulation practices?.
