With the the construction of the modern nation state, the educational system has sustained its ideological identity to date due to the injection of the state ideology into the society and the prevention of ideas or actions which could pose a threat by closely monitoring the society. However, education has been exempted from the criticisms on the relationship between the state and ideology/power as education is considered holy, the education to be received is presented as an ideal norm and it is believed that its deprivation will lead to a dark age. However, education, one of the systems in which the changing state ideology can be best observed, has theoretical and practical foundations that are most suitable for being criticized in terms of its close relationship with both the society and the state, its capacity to change and transform the society and creating the desired uniform individual. Together with all these reasons, the educational system has required this research. Especially in a country like Turkey, which experienced the transition from being an empire to becoming a nation-state and where the state is trying to make its power domain dominant over a wide area including dressing, measurement and weight units, calendar and time, it would be wrong to say that education has slipped down this power domain, the effort of penetration as the most functional system. This study is quite significant for revealing how the education system and its basic philosophy have been shaped through the pre-modern, modern and new periods, what a role the education system assumes in children's journey to become individuals and to what extent they are affected by the state ideology. The status of the relationship between state and education in Turkey was investigated in the study on the basis of 1924, 1961 and 1982 Constitutions, the Basic Law of National Education numbered 1789 and the National Education Councils, and Development Plans, Governmental Programs of certain periods and the MNE Strategic Plans were also taken into consideration a times.
