ABSTRACT Mehmet Emin Yurdakul lived between the years of 1869 and 1944- These years Were full of political and social turbulence. Mehmet Emin Yurdakul, Whose father was a head-fisherman, was brought up as a middle-class citizen. Known as `the national poet`, he travelled to many places in the Ottoman State So that he found opportunity to get to know the people he has lived together. By not portraying personal feelings in his poems, the national poet reflects the lives of his people with their sorrow and pain, with his own revolutionary, populist, republican and nationalist personality. In his poems, he has used versification of Western style such as sonnet, terzarima, triyole, ottova-rima, quatrain-How ever, the national poet hasn't completely followed the rules of this versification. He has written all of his poems in syllabic metre, the metre of Turkish National Poetry. The language he uses in his poetry is artificial public language. Mehmet Emin Yurdakul, has had no great talent for poetry; there has been no exact harmony in his poems as well. Since his first work, called `Turkish Poetry` (Türkçe Şiirler), published in 1898, he has represented the national values of the society he belongs to in his poetry. There are some values of a society: her style of life, her view on life, and the approving and giving value of her members are accepted as national values. Mehmet Emin Yurdakul, has tried to transfer the national values to the future generations. The type of person, he wants to be grown up is someone who loves, protects and praises his family, his nation, his mother language, his religion, his country, his history, and someone who is a brave, hardworking art-lover, full of human love. These features are also the national values of Turkish Society. IV.
