In this thesis, the existing authentication systems and the ones that have been used so far were reviewed and a security and reliability of those systems based on Biometric, Token-based and knowledge-based systems have been evaluated. The extensive usage of the current alphanumeric passwords were investigated, some vulnerabilities were come across and to reduce or stop those, some security issues were also considered. In order to achieve that, a new method was suggested and developed practically in this thesis. In the developed method, to suggest a password for the system, two basic elements of the graphical passwords were utilised. When a recognition based password is selected, by defining a password domain from a group of icons and images, the user defines the password from that domain. The factors that strengthen a password in this method, are the order in which the user clicks on the selected icons, the number of clicks, and timestamp. When the user defines a remembrance based password, by clicking on different parts of the picture that is shown to the user, he/she includes them to the password, too. The security of this method has been examined and presented as a form of report in this work. The newly developed authentication system is determined to be reliable. It is expected that the approach will provide new technique and technologies to be used on further developed ments, approaches and technologies.
