Nowadays, object recognition which is a subfield of image processing has gainedsignificant importance as science and technology allows more sophisticatedmanipulation of digital images. Among this subject, human face recognition received alot of attention mostly because of the need to reliably security systems. In this study, we have developed a method based on discrete wavelettransformation to recognize human face images. 2 level transformations is applied toimages. The approximation coefficients of the second level are used to identity faces. Wehave showed that applying wavelet transformation to the images increases recognitionperformance as well as decreases recognition time significantly when compared tosimilar cases using images without transformation.Simulations are performed over a set 500 people selected from CNNL facedatabase. Our method, based on template matching without any transformation appliedto images, performed % 78 correct recognition performances. The method developedbased on wavelet transformation performed %80 correct recognition on the same set. However the latter performs the identification as much as 11 times faster. Keywords: Image Processing, Database, Wavelet Transform.
