Uluslararası alanda çok önem verilen bilimsel tartışma (argümantasyon) son yıllarda Türkiye'de de araştırmacılar tarafından ilgi görmektedir ve argümantasyonun çeşitli değişkenlere etkisi araştırılmaktadır. Bilgiyi ezberleyen değil; çevresindeki değişimleri sorgulayan, eleştirel ve bilim insanı gibi düşünebilen bireyler yetiştirmek için bilimsel tartışma önemli bir öğretim yöntemidir. Eleştirel düşünceyi geliştirmeyi, problem çözme becerisini artırmayı ve yaratıcılığı ortaya çıkarmayı hedefleyen fen eğitimi için de bu yöntemin fen derslerinde kullanılması oldukça önemlidir. Bu amaçla bu araştırmanın amacı, yedinci sınıf öğrencilerinin `İnsan ve Çevre` ünitesinde çevreye yönelik tutumları ve bilgi düzeyleri üzerine, Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı fen ve teknoloji öğretim programının öngördüğü etkinliklere kıyasla bilimsel tartışma odaklı öğretim etkinliklerinin etkisini ortaya çıkarmaktır. Araştırmada, nicel araştırma deseni olan `Ön test-son test kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen` kullanılmıştır. Bu amaçla rastgele olmayan örneklem türü olan uygun örneklem kullanılarak deney ve kontrol grubu oluşturulmuştur. Deney grubunda 29, kontrol grubunda 28 öğrenci olmak üzere çalışmaya toplam 57 yedinci sınıf öğrencisi katılmıştır. Deney grubunda dersler yedinci sınıf `İnsan ve Çevre` ünitesi için araştırmacı tarafından Toulmin'in argüman modeli baz alınarak hazırlanan bilimsel tartışma odaklı öğretim etkinlikleri ile gerçekleştirilirken, kontrol grubunda Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı fen ve teknoloji öğretim programının içerdiği etkinliklerle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma 2012-2013 eğitim-öğretim yılında Kayseri ili Melikgazi ilçesinde MEB'e bağlı bir devlet okulunda gerçekleştirilmiş olup etkinliklerin uygulaması toplam 16 ders saati (dört hafta) sürmüştür. Araştırmada veriler, çevre eğitimi üzerine çalışma yapan bir araştırmacıdan izin alınarak, 24 soruluk çevre bilgi testi ve 20 maddelik çevre tutum ölçeği ile toplanmıştır. Ön test ve son test olarak uygulama öncesinde ve sonrasında uygulanan çevre bilgi testi ve çevreye yönelik tutum ölçeğinden elde edilen verilerin aritmetik ortalamaları ve standart sapmaları betimsel olarak verilmiş ve bilgi testi puanlarının normal dağıldığı belirlenmiştir. Çıkarıma dayalı olarak bilgi düzeyi bağımlı değişkeni için bağımsız gruplar t testi analizleri yapılmıştır. Çevreye yönelik tutum ölçeğinde katılımcıların puanları normal dağılmadığı için bu ölçekten elde edilen puanların analizi parametrik olmayan Mann Whitney U testi ile yapılmıştır. İstatistiksel olarak analizlerin yapılmasında SPSS 22 paket programı kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizlerinin yorumlanmasında .05 anlamlılık düzeyi kabul edilmiştir. Yapılan analiz sonucunda, çalışmada öğrencilerin çevre bilgi son test puanlarının deney grubu lehine anlamlı olduğu görülmüştür (t(55)=2,564, p=.013). Çevre bilgi son test sonuçlarına göre bilimsel tartışma odaklı öğretim etkinliklerinin öğrencilerin çevre bilgi düzeyleri üzerine etkisi kontrol grubuna göre istatistiksel olarak daha anlamlıdır. Ancak çevreye yönelik tutum son test puanlarında anlamlı bir fark olmadığı görülmüştür (U=311.5, p=.129). Bilimsel tartışma odaklı öğretim etkinliklerinin öğrencilerin çevreye yönelik tutumları üzerine etkisi yoktur. Bu sonuçlar ışığında çevre konuları işlenirken öğrencilerin çevre bilgisi düzeylerini artırmak için, derslerde onların aktif olarak argüman oluşturup tartışacakları bilimsel tartışma yöntemine daha fazla yer verilmelidir. Literatürde bilimsel tartışmanın lise öğrencileri ve öğretmen adaylarının çevreye yönelik tutumlarına olumlu etkisinin olduğu çalışmalar bulunmaktadır (Deniz, 2014; Fettahlıoğlu, 2012). Bu çalışmalar göz önüne alınarak ortaokul, lise ve üniversite düzeylerinde bu yöntemin öğrencilerin çevreye yönelik tutumlarına etkisi karşılaştırılabilir. Ayrıca bilimsel tartışmanın; öğrencilerin doğayla bütünleşmelerini, çevresini daha çok gözlemlemelerini ve çevreye yönelik olumlu tutum geliştirmelerini sağlayacak gezi, gözlem ve inceleme gibi farklı yöntemlerle beraber kullanıldığı çalışmalar yapılabilir.Anahtar Kelimeler: Fen Eğitimi, Çevre Eğitimi, Bilimsel Tartışma, Nicel Araştırma.

Argumentation that is given much importance in the international arena scientific area has also received attention by researchers in Turkey in recent years and it has been investigated the effect of argumentation on several variables. Argumentation is an important teaching method for educating individuals who question the changes in their environment, think critically and like scientists, not memorizing the information. It is also very important to use this method in science lessons to improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and stimulate creativity. For this purpose, the aim of this research is to reveal the effects of argumentation-oriented teaching activities on the attitudes towards the environment and knowledge levels of seventh grade students in the `Human and Environment` unit compared to the activities included in Ministry of National Education science and technology teaching program.In the research, `pre-test-post-test control group quasi-experimental design` was used as Quantitative research method. For this purpose, experiment and control group were created by using convenience sampling which is a non-random sampling method. A total of 57 seventh grade students participated in the study with 29 students in the experimental group and 28 students in the control group. In the experimental group, the lessons were carried out by the researcher for the seventh grade `Human and Environment` unit with argumentation-oriented teaching activities based on the argument model of Toulmin, while in the control group activities were carried out by the Ministry of National Education's science and technology teaching program. The research was conducted in a state school in the province of Kayseri in the academic year of 2012-2013, and the total duration of the activities were 16 hours (four weeks). The data were collected through a 24-question environmental information test and a 20-item environmental attitude scale, with permission from a researcher studying on environmental education.The means and standard deviations of the data obtained from the pre-tests and post-tests for two data collection instruments were descriptively analyzed and the normality assumption for the information test was provided. Therefore, independent samples t test analyzes were conducted as the inferential statistics on the first dependent variable (environment knowledge-level). As the participants' scores on the attitude scale towards the environment were not distributed normally, the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test was performed to analyze the scores obtained from this scale. SPSS 22 package program was used for the statistical analysis. A significance level of .05 was considered in interpreting the analysis of the obtained data.As a result of the analysis, it was found that the post environmental information level test scores of the students in the study were significantly different for the experimental group (t(55)=2,564, p=.013). According to the post environmental information test results, the effect of argumentation-oriented teaching activities on students' environmental knowledge levels was statistically more significant than control group. However, there was no significant difference in post environmental attitude test scores (U=311.5, p=.129). In other words, Argumentation-based teaching activities had no impact on students' attitudes towards the environment. In the light of these results, more argumentation method should be given in the lesson in which they will actively discuss and argue in order to increase the level of environmental knowledge of students. There are some studies in the literature that claim argumentation positively influences the attitudes of high school students and teacher candidates towards the environment (Deniz, 2014; Fettahlıoğlu, 2012). Taking these studies into consideration, it is possible to compare the effect of this method on students' attitudes towards environmental issues at secondary, high school and university levels. In addition, argumentation can be carried out with different methods such as trips, observations and examinations, which will enable students to integrate nature, observe more of the environment and develop positive attitudes towards the environment.Keywords: Science Education, Environmental Education, Argumentation, Quantitative Research.
