Keywords: Machine learning, artificial intelligence, artificial neural networks, multilayer perceptron, k nearest neighborhood (Knn), thyroid disease. The use of computer technologies in today's world has become an indispensable point in every aspect of society and human life. In the field of computer technologies in general and artificial intelligence and artificial neural networks in particular, there have been rapid developments that have been observed recently and with increasing acceleration. The health services sector is also the scene of important studies on these issues. The aim of this study is to use artificial neural network technology in the diagnosis of thyroid disease. The thyroid gland is located in the neck region of the human body and regulates body metabolism by secreting hormones by instructions from the pituitary gland in the brain. Thyroid disease is caused by dysfunction of the thyroid gland. Hyperthyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland is overactive, and hypothyroidism occurs if it is not sufficiently effective. Diagnosis of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism can be made by looking at the levels of T3, T4 and TSH hormones. In the present study, these values were taken as input data and success rates were compared by diagnosing the disease with various learning methods. The application was conducted separately for two data groups from different sources. 1. Group consists of data of 300 people obtained from Sakarya Public Hospitals with the permission of Sakarya Provincial Health Directorate. Of these, 100 are healthy, 100 are hyperthyroid and 100 are hypothyroid. The second group consists of 215 people from UCI machine learning database. Of these, 150 were healthy, 35 had hyperthyroidism and 30 had hypothyroidism. There are 3 entries in the 1st data group and 5 entries in the 2nd data group. Each data group was trained with different learning methods in the Artificial Neural Networks toolbox of Weka program and Matlab program and the results were analyzed. In the diagnosis of Thyroid Disease, the most successful results were obtained by using LM as the training function, feedforward as the network type and tansig as the transfer function in the Matlab Artificial Neural Networks toolbox.
