VII ABSTRACT ECLIPSING BINARIES WITH PULSATING COMPONENTS DERVİŞO?LU, Ahmet MSc in Astronomy and Space Science Supervisor: Prof. Dr. M. Can AKAN July 2005, 95 pages In this dissertation, we investigate the present status of the pulsating gainers of the semi-detached Algol type eclipsing binaries (oEA). We try to draw attention to the ever-increasing numbers of such systems. Due to strong connection between binary star evolution and oEA stars, we discuss the influence of the mass transfer on the pulsational properties of these components. As a result of this connection, we investigate how we can get information about evolutionary status of Algols using the observed period changes of pulsating gainers. The studies of pulsation in eclipsing binaries can allow us to develop new asteroseismic methods. We discuss the two of the present problems of stellar astrophysics which may be solved by using these methods. Lastly, we evaluate these methods especially on RZ Cas, AB Cas and AS Eri. Keywords: Asteroseismology, eclipsing binary stars, Algols, mass transfer, asynchronization.

ÖZET ZONKLAYAN BİLEŞENLİ ÖRTEN ÇİFT YILDIZLAR DERVİŞOĞLU, Ahmet Yüksek Lisans Tezi, Astronomi ve Uzay Bilimleri Bolümü Tez Yöneticisi: Prof. Dr. M. Can Akan Temmuz 2005, 95 Sayfa Bu tez kapsamında yarı-ayrık Algol türü örten çift sistemlerin kütle artırımı gösteren zonklayan bileşenleri (oEA) incelenmiştir.
