The fact that overproduction and rapid consumption behaviors are destroying the future of the world due to those who think that nature has unlimited resources shows that humanity must reconcile rapidly with nature. In this sense, the subject of the study is; reflections of `sustainability `approach, which is seen as a global remedy for consumption behaviors in fashion and clothing industry, which is the second most important cause of environmental pollution after petrochemistry. Therefore, the aim of the study is to determine whether the consciousness of sustainability affects the consumption behavior of young people within the scope of `Planned Behavior Theory`. For this purpose, the data obtained from 600 students aged 18-25 years studying at Başkent University Faculty of Fine Arts Design and Architecture in the spring semester of 2017-2018 academic year were evaluated. In order to obtain the data, a questionnaire form. called `Sustainable Clothing Consumption Behavior Scale` is prepared. Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin and Barlett Tests were performed before exploratory factor analysis which was developed to prove the construct validity of the scale. In the confirmatory factor analysis, the three-factor structures of the `Sustainable Consumption Consciousness Scale` (SCCS) which is in the second part of the questionnaire and the four-factor structures of the `Planned Behavior Scale for Sustainable Clothing Consumption` (PBS) which is in the third part of the questionnaire, were confirmed. In order to determine the reliability of the measurement tool, it was found that they were quite reliable for this sample in both scales according to the Cronbach's Alpha coefficient (SCAS = 0.89; PBS = 0.88). A structural equation analysis method is used to test the 12 hypotheses, formed according to the research model to find answers to the sub-problems of the study.According to the findings of the research; Planned Behavior Theory; in the context of the components of sustainable clothing consumption behavior, that the environmental level of consciousness of sustainability affects `attitude` positively, affects `subjective norm` negatively; that the economic level of consciousness of sustainability affects `attitude` positively and `subjective norm negatively; the social level of consciousness of sustainability affects `attitude` positively, affects `subjective norm` negatively and that no level of consciousness of sustainability affects `perceived behavioral control`.On the other hand, `attitude` affects `behavior intention` positively, `subjective norm` affects `behavior intention negatively affects and `perceived behavioral control` affects `behavior intention` negatively are among the results obtained. As a result; it was evaluated that the consciousness of young people about sustainability constitutes a stronger sustainable behavior intention within the context of clothing consumption, and in this context, a training program was proposed to raise the consciousness level of young people in order to increase their intention to exhibit sustainable clothing consumption behavior. In addition to contributing to raising about the spread of sustainable clothing consumption behavior in the society, it is considered that the proposal of the developed education program may be the source of the studies to be conducted in this field.Key Words: Textile and Fashion Design, Sustainability Consciousness, Sustainable Clothing Consumption Behavior, Planned Behavior Theory, Sustainability Training.
