The research has been planned experimentally in order to determine the effects of cadmium in female mice, which is applied independently of estrous cycle phases, on fertility. The research was conducted in Trakya University Laboratory Animals Research Unit between October 2013 and February 2014. 54 BALB/c mice, which were raised in Trakya University Laboratory Animals Research Unit, the ages of which vary between 6 and 7 week and the weights of which vary between 25 and 30 g. During the experimental period, 6 out of 24 animals in the control group died because of an unknown reason and 3 out of 30 animals in the experimental group died as a result of an unknown reason/cadmium toxicity. In this situation, some groups were created as Experimental Group 1 (9 female mice, exposure to 200 ppm CdCl2 for 30 days), Experimental Group 2 (9 female mice, exposure to 200 ppm CdCl2 for 60 days), Experimental Group 3 (7 female mice, exposure to 200 ppm CdCl2 for 30 days), Control Group 1 (6 female mice), Control Group 2 (6 female mice), Control Group 3 (6 female mice).Analysis of the research data was carried out on computer via the packaged software of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) 16. Compliance of estradiol variable with normal distribution was examined via Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Descriptive statistics has been shown as average (± standard deviation) and median (min-max).Each experimental group was compared with its own control group via Mann-Whitney U test. When the situation was p<0.05, it was considered as statistically significant. In the research, the swab sample belonging to proestrus phase was observed as characterized by clustered nucleated epithelial cells. Experimental subjects providing the smear, %90 of its cell population of which is formed by anuclear cornified cells, were considered as in estrus phase. In metestrus phase, while a large number of tightly packed nucleated epithelial cell was observed in the swab, cytoplasmic vacuoles also appeared in some of these cells. In diestrus phase, while the neutrophil number further increases in the early stages of the phase, nucleated epithelial cells decreased. At the end of exposure to cadmium for 30 days, presence of numerous nucleated epithelial cells that formed clusters in the smear of Proestrus phase was observed. In the research, it was observed that apoptotic cells increased significantly compared to experimental group 1 in Proestrus, Estrus, Metestrus and Diestrus phases as a result of exposure to cadmium for 60 days. In the research, it was observed that apoptotic cells were similar to experimental group 2 in Proestrus, Estrus, Metestrus and Diestrus phases as a result of exposure to cadmium for 90 days. Chronic exposure of cadmium is associated with estrogenic effect.Estradiol average and standard deviation of Experimental group 1 were found as 27.67 ± 5:55 pg/mL, Estradiol average and standard deviation of Experimental group 2 were found as 31.78 ± 3.31 pg/mL, Estradiol average and standard deviation of Experimental group 3 were found as 11.86 ± 2.48 pg/mL, Estradiol average and standard deviation of Control group 1 were found as 29.17 ± 8.80 pg/mL, Estradiol average and standard deviation of Control group 2 were found as 24.83 ± 3.37 pg/mL, Estradiol average and standard deviation of Control group 3 were found as 27.33 ± 1.51 pg/mL, respectively. In terms of Estradiol level, a statistically insignificant difference was found between Experimental group 1 and Control group 1 (z= -0.06, p=0.952).Estradiol average and standard deviation of Experimental group 2 were found as 31.78 ± 3.31 pg/mL and Estradiol average and standard deviation of Control group 2 were found as 24.83 ± 3.37 pg/mL, respectively. Estradiol median value of Experimental group 2 was found as 32 pg/mL and Estradiol median value of Control group 2 was found as 25 pg/mL, respectively. In terms of Estradiol level, a statistically significant difference was found between Experimental group 2 and Control group 2 (z= -2.733, p=0.005).Estradiol average and standard deviation of Experimental group 3 were found as 11.86±2.48 pg/mL and Estradiol average and standard deviation of Control group 3 were found as 27.33±1.51 pg/mL, respectively. Estradiol median value of Experimental group 3 was found as 10 pg/mL and Estradiol median value of Control group 3 was found as 27 pg/mL, respectively. In terms of Estradiol level, a statistically significant difference was found between Experimental group 3 and Control group 3 (z= 3.064, p=0.001).It was determined that there was no change in the average FSH, LH and Prolactin levels of Experimental and Control groups. In conclusion, it was proved by this study that cadmium exposure has the potential to affect the serum estradiol level in a negative way. It is considered that cadmium may be an etiologic factor for fertility causes and unexplained infertility. Keywords: Cadmium, Fertility Parameters, Mice, Estrous Cycle.

Araştırmanın verilerinin analizi bilgisayarda Statistical Package For Social Science (SPSS) 16 paket programında gerçekleştirilmiştir.
