The issue of energy efficiency, preserving its importance in architecture as in all fields, became effective with different utilizations in buildings. It's inevidable to create buildings with a sustainability aspect in future's architecture via approaches that don't use up resources, save energy and are environmentally conscious. In this context, heating, cooling, ventilation, air conditioning and illumination systems have gained importance in order to increase energy efficiency and building performance. As examined according to the sectors, electrical energy is most consumed at industrial buildings. Accordingly, efficient usage of electrical energy at industrial buildings becomes important. The aim of this thesis is to obtain the energy in an efficient way for a qualitative and functional illumination by planning and the selection of the utilized luminaire, while minimizing the electrical energy consumption for artificial illumination as supplying the modelled space with necessary illumination. In the first chapter of this study; subject, aim and methodology of the thesis are given. The material, programs and methods that were used are introduced. In the second chapter, the concepts of illumination and natural/artificial illumination are discussed. Methods of energy efficiency are discussed for natural illumination, and for artificial illumination, illumination devices of the past and that are developing with today's technoogy, methods and techniques are discussed. In the third chapter, importance of illumination in terms of energy efficiency is emphasized and Turkey's approach to this subject is reviewed. In the fourth chapter, one of the industrial buildings, in which the importance of energy efficiency takes a big share, is taken as a sample and introduced, and Dialux software that will be used for modelling is examined. Illumination energy consumption calculation and visualisation is done by modelling a space of the industrial building that has high consumption of illumination energy. Current situation is determined via illumination and energy consumption calculations by using Dialux software and the proposed condition is modeled for a comparison with the current situation. In the fifth chapter, the importance of illumination for energy efficiency is evaluated by determining the current and the prorposed condition on the sample model, and pointing the attention to solutions to decrease this consumption in sectoral distributions was tried.
