ABSTRACTBrushless Direct Current motors are one of the special purpose electric motors used in many industrial fields. Brushless Direct Current motors have some advantages such as high efficiency, long working life and low maintenance requirements; however the complexity of their control structure is a disadvantage. Therefore, there are many studies on the control of brushless DC motors today. Classic or modern control methods can be used for this control. In this thesis study, one of the modern control methods of brushless direct current motors, model reference adaptive control (MRAC) system (with MIT rule) has been studied. This study was conducted in the Simulink application of the MATLAB program. Reference inputs such as pulse function, sine function and step function were applied to the designed systems during simulation. In the first part of the simulation, the inputs which mentioned above were applied to the system that has been designed according to MRAC – MIT rule and the output speed of the system was observed. When the simulation results are examined, it is concluded that the system speed follows the speed of the reference model. In the second part of the simulation, classic PID control has been studied and the results are compared with MRAC - MIT rule. In the last part of the simulation, it is also thought that the resistance value will change when the motor is heated. After the resistance value was changed, the simulation was run again and the output of the system was observed again. As a result of this application, the speed of the system has been followed by the reference model again.
