Keywords: postposition, text, formation of a text, sentence, meaning, context. In verbal communication, the speaker and the listener?s being face to face ensures agreement, that is, when the listener does not understand any word or sentence of the speaker, he/she can ask the speaker what he/she means. Also when the listener misunderstands what the speaker has said, the speaker has the chance to make the meaning clear. In written communication, this kind of chances of correction is not possible and the clues in the text provide the true way of understanding between the writer and the reader. Therefore, as being the widest scale of language and containing the true meaning in written language, the text has become the essential area of research in language studies.A text is not a pile of a series of sentences being compiled arbitrarily. In order for the sentences to form a text, they must have some features such as reduction, repetition, consistency, compatibility, reference to the former and the latter sentences. Postpositions, constituting various relations among the sentences, and thereby, rendering them a text, are one of the most important language units. This study focuses on the relations among the postpositions while constructing a text. The first part of the thesis consists of the problem of the research, the purpose, the method and the limitations. The purpose of this study is to detect the types of relations that the postpositions established in the text and the differences in meaning among the postpositions which can set up a certain kind of relationship, and, therefore to provide the use of the postpositions in the production of written text consciously. In the second part, the nomenclature made hitherto and the description of a postposition are dealt with in detail. The postposition is one of the topics in the fields of research about Turkish of whose limits are indefinite. Especially, there are certain differences in the classification of the words which are postpositions. Hence, the description of the postposition is tried to be re-established. In this part, the terms which have direct influence on the description of the postposition such as meaning, context, function, relation, text, word are focused on when it is needed. The third part deals with the types of relationship the postpositions established. In this part, primarily, the term `relation? is studied in terms of nomenclature, essence and classification. After this, the relations such as cause and effect, similitude, deduction, alteration, restriction, exception, choice, connection, addition etc. are examined. While examining, firstly, concept analysis of the features of each type of relation is done, and then the postpositions which can have such kind of relation are tried to be analyzed. The postpositions are attempted to be explained not by giving the closest meaning but by defining, if possible. Besides, the differences in the use between the postpositions which can have the same relation are detected as far as possible. In the forth part, there are the practice samples on various texts. The last part consists of the conclusion and the suggestions. Although the postposition is crucial for the formation of a text, its borders can not be drawn exactly. In this study, the borders of the topic is attempted to be re-examined according to the latest data gained from the language studies and also the definitions of a hundred postpositions are defined. All these detections and definitions will be of great help for the people from certain fields such as teaching, learning, translation and law. Moreover, the necessity to re-consider the definitions of the postpositions in the current Turkish dictionaries is indicated.
