Regarding other faculties, faculties of agriculture requires lower scores at university entrance examination. Therefore, it displays the fact that the demand for faculties of agriculture is at low levels; and relevantly the successful students do not prefer faculties of agriculture. The faculties of agriculture receive students with lower academic success, which affect scientific and academic studies. The objectives of this study were determining how university student candidates perceived faculties of agriculture, the factors which affected their perception, and the issues that affected their preferences about faculties of agricultures. The research was implemented in Kahramanmaraş province; students of public secondary schools, vocational secondary schools, Anatolian secondary schools, and science secondary schools – total 384 students took place in the research. Throughout the study, various studies were examined for data collection, and the questionnaire was prepared considering earlier work in the field as well as observations and interviews. The study included four specific objectives. Data analysis methods and research findings were selected and presented considering research objectives. In this respect, the first objective of the research was determining demographic characteristics of the participants and different characteristics were examined to accomplish this objective. The second objective was determining the factors which affected students' decisions on not preferring faculties of agricultures. Research findings showed that the basic factor for not preferring the faculties of agricultures were the perceived lower employment opportunities in the sector and lower prestige of the professional field. The third objective was determining the factors which affected the respondents on preferring the faculties of agricultures. The most significant factors for preferring the faculties of agriculture were the easiness of graduation, and students' common point of view about adequacy on agriculture. As a conclusion of this finding, there was a lack of positive motivational factors for preferring the faculties of agriculture, and therefore, negative motivational factors negatively affected the students on their preference. As fourth objective, the examination of the relationship between selected demographic variables and preferring faculties of agriculture resulted in a significant correlation between faculties of agriculture preferences and type of secondary school students graduated from.

Ziraat fakültelerinin puanları diğer fakültelerle kıyaslandığında alt sıralarda yer almaktadır. Bir bölümün sınav puanı o bölüme olan taleple doğru orantılıdır. Talebin düşük olması başarı seviyesi yüksek olan öğrencilerin bu fakülteleri tercih etmemesine neden olmaktadır. Akademik seviyesi düşük olan öğrencilerin ziraat fakültelerini tercih etmeleri bu fakültelerde yapılacak olan bilimsel ve akademik çalışmaları doğrudan etkilemektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı üniversiteye hazırlanan öğrencilerin ziraat fakültelerini nasıl algıladıkları ve bu algıya etki eden faktörleri belirlemek ve ziraat fakültelerini tercih etmesinde etkili olan faktörleri ortaya koymaktır. Araştırma Kahramanmaraş İlinde yapılmış olup, araştırmaya bu ilde faaliyet gösteren düz liseler, meslek liseleri, Anadolu liseleri ve fen liselerinin son sınıfında okuyan toplam 384 öğrenci katılmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplamak amacıyla çeşitli araştırmalar göz önünde bulundurularak ve gözlemler ve görüşmeler neticesinde elde edilen verilerden anket hazırlanmıştır. Anket içerisindeki konular dört ana amaca yönelik hazırlanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler SPSS veri analiz programı kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırma bulguları amaçlar doğrultusunda verilmektedir. Bu bağlamda araştırmanın birinci amacı; deneklerin demografik özelliklerini belirlemek olup bu amaç çeşitli göstergelerle ortaya konulmuştur. Araştırmanın ikinci amacı deneklerin ziraat fakültesini tercih etmemesi üzerine etkili olan faktörleri belirlemek olup en önemli faktörler olarak özel sektörde iş olanaklarının az olması ve prestijinin düşük bir meslek olarak görülmesidir. Araştırmanın üçüncü amacı deneklerin ziraat fakültesini tercih etmesi üzerine etkili olan faktörleri belirlemektir. Ziraat fakültelerinin tercih edilmesinde etkili olan en önemli faktörler ise; öğrencilerin kendilerini tarımsal konularda yeterli görmesi ve ziraat fakültelerinden mezun olmanın daha kolay görülmesidir. Sonuç olarak ziraat fakültelerine yönelik tercihte motive edici faktörlerin yetersizliği büyük bir kararsızlık olarak ankete yansımakta, olumsuz motive edici faktörlerin öğrenciler üzerinde ağırlık bulması ise öğrencilerin ziraat fakültelerini tercih etmesini olumsuz olarak etkilemektedir. Araştırmanın dördüncü amacı olarak seçilen demografik değişkenlerle ziraat fakültesini tercih etme değişkeni arasında olası bağıntı ve ilişkilerin incelenmesi sonucunda ziraat fakültesi tercih durumu ile mezun olunan okul türü arasında önemli bir bağıntı bulunmuştur.
