Puberty is defined as the period of transition from childhood to adulthood, which includes the development of secondary sexual characteristics, physical and sexual changes in the body, and psychological maturing. Precocious puberty is diagnosed with the observation of puberty signs before the age of 8 for girls and 9 for boys. Delayed puberty is defined as failure to observe secondary sexual characteristics after the age of 13 for girls and after the age of 14 for boys. The determination of the child's tooth and bone development and pubertal development is important for issues such as starting pedodontic and orthodontic treatment at the right time, choosing the right treatment, and prognosis management. Precocious puberty indicates quick growth and delayed puberty indicates retardation in growth and this study aims to determine whether dental development is synchronous with somatic development. In this study, the dental ages of 62 girls with precocious puberty between the ages of 5 and 9, 34 boys with precocious puberty between the ages of 5 and 9, 29 girls with delayed puberty between the ages of 13 and 16, and 43 boys with delayed puberty between the ages of 14 and 17 diagnosed after examinations carried out in Istanbul University, Faculty of Medicine, Child Health and Childhood Diseases Department, Growth, Development and Pediatric Endocrinology Polyclinic, and of 169 children (91 girls, 78 boys) with normal development have been studied through their panoramic radiographies (DPR) using the Demirjian method (DY) and bone age with Greulich Pyle method (GRP).It was determined that, in all cases, dental age values are greater than chronologic and bone age values to a statistically significant degree. In the precocious puberty group, it was determined that dental age values are greater than chronologic age values to a statistically significant degree. In the delayed puberty group, the difference determined between the chronological age and the dental age was not found to be statistically significant.
