This master thesis titled ''The Representation Of Identity Politics In Media Within The Contemprory Period of Globalization: A Content And Discourse Analysis Of News Samples From Two National Newspapers In Turkey'', examines the media representation of identity politics as a problematic in our current era whose global character is emphasized and handles this issue by taking samples of articles from two national newspapers. At the same time, this study can be considered as a reading suggestion that identity politics may be an issue of status, and related to the ideological discourse of institutional structures in the process of modernization, as well.Seeing that the understanding of identity politics requires dealing with the issue in historical unity, and with individual and social values being thought to be crucial for this purpose, a holistic perspective was deemed necessary, and therefore, a critical political economic approach has been used throughout this study. The main focus of this study is to exemplify cases in which the perceptions of identities in society may be related to the ideological discourses of media institutions. In this context, in the second section, the notion of globalisation and its history, approaches to globalisation and the concept of postmodernism as the ideology of the neoliberal era are mentioned. In the third section, in turn, subjects are elaborated: the definition of identity politics, what processes it appeared in, in which values it is expressed, and some concepts that it is based on; locality and globality, multiculturalism, ethnicity, nationalism, religion, sexism, youth and elderliness, provincialism and urbanity, in the context of modernization and globalization. In the fourth and final section of the thesis, we deal with how the identities are represented in the media, which is a global cultural industry institution in the neoliberal period when competition is sharpened and multinational companies are adopted as an important actor; in addition, this study also mentions of how identity politics are reflected in the media. For this purpose, news related to the above mentioned themes in the Cumhuriyet and Sabah newspapers, which have different perspectives on issues between November 20, 2017 and December 17, 2017 are analyzed through discourse and content analysis methods. With the application of content analysis method, the aim is to get a general idea of how different identities are included in newspaper pages and whether these identities are reflected as negative and positive, whereas the aim of the discourse analysis method is to understand the news writing strategies that are selected to describe these identities and based on what values identity politics are expressed. As a critical approach in the analysis of discourse, Teun Adrian Van Dijk's macro and micro-analysis methods have been applied where deemed necessary.
