Snow avalanche is a natural phenomenon affecting human life and studied by scientists for many years. In particular, it is important to determine whether the settlements under the avalanche path are exposed to an avalanche hazard. Nowadays, these studies are carried out together with computer software that enables the avalanche to be dynamically modeled. The development of mathematical models, which form the basis of software, dates back to the 1955s. The first computer applications related to the subject started in the 1980s and are being developed today. Beginning of the avalanche modelling attempt in Turkey is recent studies. There are limited number of studies in Turkey related with using improved snow avalanche models for European Alps. Therefore, the main goal of this thesis is determining the outcomes of a numerical dynamic simulation program developed in Switzerland on a selected pilot project area in Turkey. The model results are also discussed in the thesis in terms of applicability of the model in Turkey. Bozdağ ski center which is close to İzmir city Ödemiş district was selected as a pilot project area. Results obtained from the program as main outputs are avalanche depths, velocities, pressures and run-out distances those can also be used in the damage reduction studies were compared with some of the avalanche data reached from the incident site. Findings from different scenario simulations pointed to determine the importance of impact in the physical event of avalanche starting parameters such as released depth and return periods, show that the model have a success in the avalanche modelling for a real case study.
