This thesis aims to analyse the male characters, represented by the minimal and limited performance of Ercan Kesal, within the frame of Judith Butler's performative gender theory and the selected films, Küf (Ali Aydın, 2012), Yozgat Blues (Mahmut Fazıl Coşkun, 2013) and Ben O Değilim (Tayfun Pirselimoğlu, 2013). Unlike extreme male performances that can reveal the construction of gender, limited male performances can lead to the perception that gender is innate and predetermined. From this point of view, by analysing the limited and repeated performances of the male characters, the thesis focuses on how these male characters use performative gender with a reference to the iteration and how they end up with a new intelligibility with the change they experience at the end of the films. By using performative gender and iteration accordingly, the male characters in the films try to maintain their intelligibility. However as a result of the characters' success or failure, the films end with a new intelligibility. This, on the other hand, indicates that masculinity is not natural or stable, but inclined to change or alternation. Key Words: Judith Butler, performative gender, intelligibility, masculinity, limited/minimal performance.
