This study was carried out to determine the hedonic hunger states of the university students with the Power of Food Scale (PFS), the Three-Factor Eating Questionaire-18 (TFEQ-18) and the Palatable Eating Motivation Motivation Scale (PEMS) and to evaluate the relationship between hedonic hunger and anthropometric measurements. A total of 400 students, including 311 (77,8%) female and 89 (22,2%) male volunteers aged 19-25, attended the study at Mardin Artuklu University. In the study, the data were collected using a questionnaire with face-to-face interview technique and anthropometric measurements were taken. The questionnaire form consists of socio-demographic features, some eating habits, food consumption frequency, PFS, TFEQ-18 and PEMS. The average age of male students in the study is 21.02 ± 1.45 years, and women are 20.51 ± 1.41 years (p>0,05). Hedonic hunger was found in 21,9% of men and 78,1 of women (p>0,05). Apart from restricting conscious eating of students with hedonic hunger, the mean scores of PFS, TFEQ, PEMS and its sub-dimensions were found to be statistically significantly higher than those without hedonic hunger (p<0,05). Hedonic hunger level of women was found higher than men, the presence of hedonic hunger decreases with age after the age of 20, hedonic hunger decreases as the level of maternal education increases (p>0,05). A statistically significant and positive correlation was found between age and restricting eating consciously, which is one of the sub-dimensions of TFEQ (r=0,158); TFEQ total score and body weight (r=0,168); waist circumference (r=0,112) and BMI (r=0,157) (p<0,05). The frequency of skipping meals is higher in those with hedonic hunger (82,6%) than those (71,2%) without (p<0,05). Those with hedonic hunger are more likely to consumption of pasta rice, fries, chips (p<0,05); sugar, chocolate, wafer, cola and carbonated beverage (p>0,05) than those without hedonic hunger. Body weight, height, waist circumference, body fat percentage, lean body mass, hedonic hunger of students with hedonic hunger were found similar to students without hedonic hunger (p>0,05). In the prevention and treatment of obesity, it is necessary to determine the state of hedonic hunger in individuals and develop recommendations for this. It is recommended to carry out more comprehensive studies on hedonic hunger.
