This study investigated the effect of 5E learning cycle on meaningful learning in the force concept that is offered in sixth grade science and technology curriculum as a part of force and movement unit.This study was conducted with sixth grade students in Cumhuriyet Elemantary School in Hatay-Reyhanlı in 2009. Experimental group students consisted of 3 classes with 100 students. Two male and two female as a total of four students from these classes were selected as study group who were participated in face to face interviews.After conducting a pre test, experimental group students studied force and movement unit with the 5E Learning Cycle model. At the end of instruction, experimental group students took a post test. With a similar design, pre and post interviews were conducted with study group students.The responses to the interview questions that focused on students? understanding of force concept revealed several misconceptions. Students expressed that movement is necessary for a force. Some students thought that bigger force is applied to the heavy object compared to light objects. In addition, it is expressed that only living things can exert force. They indicated that there is a force in the air that is similar to gravity. Some students thought that gravity pulls the heavy objects slowly compared to light objects like a human. It is expressed that gravity does not exert a force to the stable object. The force of gravity decreased when the object is placed in higher palaces. Depending on the situation, gravity may not exist. In addition, it is expressed that the effect of gravitational force depends on how many objects exist in a place. The effect of gravitational force gets lower in crowded place. Related to gravitational force, it is expressed that a hand should be hold upward if the objects are able to keep on moving upward. There is link established between oxygen and gravity. They thought that when oxygen gets lower then gravitational force gets lower.As a result of this study, experimental group students demonstrated statistically meaningful improvement in understanding of force. However, the findings obtained from study group revealed that students still hold several misconceptions which indicate unmeaningful learning.

Bu araştırmada, 6. sınıf fen ve teknoloji dersi, Kuvvet ve Hareket ünitesi Kuvvet kavramına yönelik, 5E Öğrenme Döngüsü Modelinin, anlamlı öğrenmeye etkisi araştırılmıştır.Araştırma 2008-2009 eğitim ve öğretim yılında, Hatay - Reyhanlı Cumhuriyet ilköğretim okulu 6. sınıf öğrencileri ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada toplam 3 sınıf ve 100 öğrenciden oluşan uygulama grubunun yanı sıra, bu sınıflardan seçilmiş, 2 erkek ve 2 kız öğrenciden oluşan, toplam 4 öğrenci, çalışma grubu olarak belirlenmiş ve bu öğrencilerle bire bir görüşmeler yapılmıştır.Uygulama grubu öğrencilerine ilk olarak ön test uygulanmıştır. Ardından 5E Öğrenme Döngüsü Modeli, 6. sınıfın 2. ünitesi olan Kuvvet ve Hareket ünitesi kapsamında işlenmiş, daha sonra da son test uygulanmıştır. Çalışma grubu öğrencileri ile de ilk olarak ön görüşme yapılmış ünite uygulamasının ardında son görüşme yapılarak çalışma tamamlanmıştır.Görüşme sonuçlarından çıkan kavram yanılgılarında, öğrencilerin kuvvet kavramıyla ilgili soru setlerinde; Kuvvetin oluşması hareket şartına bağlanmıştır. Ağır cisimlere fazla kuvvet, hafif cisimlere az kuvvet uygulandığı ve ağırlığın oranlarla belirtilmesi gerektiği ifade edilmiştir. Ayrıca Kuvvetin yalnızca canlılar tarafından uygulanabileceği düşünülmüştür. Havada yer çekimine benzer bir kuvvetin var olduğu belirtilmiştir. Yer çekimi, insan gücüne benzetilmiş ve ağır cisimleri yavaş, hafif cisimleri daha hızlı çektiği düşünülmüştür. Yer çekimi kuvvetinin duran cisimleri çekmeyeceği, yükseklere çıkıldıkça artacağı ve duruma göre yok olabileceği ifade edilmiştir. Ayrıca yer çekimi kuvvetinin etkisinin, etki alanında bulunan cisimlerin sayılarıyla orantılı olduğu ve kalabalık ortamlarda çekim etkisinin azalacağı belirtilmiştir. Yine yer çekimi kuvveti ile ilgili olarak cismin yukarıya doğru hareketini sürdürebilmesi için, elinin yukarıda kalması gerektiği ifade edilmiştir. Oksijen ile yer çekimi arasında bağlantı kurulmuş, bunların birbirine paralel yapıya sahip olduğu düşünülmüş ve Oksijen azaldıkça yer çekiminin de azalacağı belirtilmiştir.Araştırma sonunda, uygulama grubunda öğrencilerin başarılarının istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzeyde gelişme gösterdiği belirlenmiştir. Çalışma grubundan elde edilen bulgularda ise kavram yanılgıları tespit edilmiş ve ayrıca anlamlı öğrenmenin tam olarak gerçekleşmediği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
