The word hikmah-wisdom is used in different places and within various concepts in Ta?wilat al-Qur?an, Mâtürîdî?s famous book in the field of Qur?anic exegesis, and it carries various meanings. In general these meaning can be observed through platforms with ontological differences. Therefore hikmah presents itself in various parts of Ta?wilat al-Qur?an as a key concept in exploring Mâtürîdî?s world of thinking. This study examines the concept of hikmah through its different expressive and ontological reflections in Ta?wilat al-Qur?an and deals with the questions developed around the concept of hikmah.Throughout this study in order to establish the meaning of the concept of hikmah, the entire book of Ta?wilat al-Qur?an was examined; important parts were chosen; the collected data were analyzed, interpreted, and placed into the relevant sections of this study. Relevant sections from Mâtürîdî?s theological work titled Kitab al-Tawhid were also repeatedly used as references in the final chapters of this study because of their relevance to this study. With this study, it has been primarily established that the concept of hikmah occupied an important place in Mâtürîdî?s thinking and it carries various meanings as reflected in different sections of Ta?wilat al-Qur?an. It appears to be that the meaning of ?isabah? (placing a being where should to be) is preferred by Mâtürîdî to other meanings of hikmah. Mâtürîdî utilizes this term sometimes in anthropological and other times in theological platforms. He transforms this word, which he considers as a theological and anthropological attribute, into a terminology of his system of thinking and he tries to solve the problems related to these two ontologically different aspects based on the concept of hikmah.
