Yûnus Emre lived in a very difficult period of Mongol invasions, and when the Seljuk State was disintegrated in Anatolia and the unity and solidarity were shattered. He is an exemplary dervish who, for the love of Allah, abandoned everything he possessed, and have chosen nothingness at Tapduk Emre's gate. Through his poetry, Yûnus Emre, has transferred the love of Allah and the moral traits of Sufism to the masses with great mastery. Yûnus Emre is a personality as important and necessary for the society today as it was for the past. The goal of Yûnus Emre, who uses Turkish in the purest and most understandable way, is not to be known or to be appreciated, but to draw people out of the difficulties, and tell them the Truth. In this study, in order to gain a better understanding of Yûnus Emre and his poetry, the period he lived in was reviewed from the political, cultural and Sufi perspective. Then, Yûnus Emre's life based on narrations was summarized. Information on two of his fundamental works, Dîvân-ı İlâhiyât and Risâletü'n-Nushiyye, was given. The Turkish language of Yûnus Emre, the concepts of Dervish and Murshid (spiritual teacher), the characteristics that a Murshid should have and the relationship between Murid (disciple)-Murshid were explained. Yûnus Emre's acquaintance with his Murshid, Tapduk Emre, and his submission to him were emphasized. The couplets about Dervishes were investigated in Yûnus Emre's Dîvân.
