At the present day, the globalisation of capital has produced competitiveness between countries and between companies. With the easiest declaration, competitiveness is the race to become succesfull. Energy, the indispensible of life, has always been the main problem for the world. Competitiveness related to energy, has become one of the most important statements for a country. This study carried out, is about lignite which is one of the economic fossil energy resources. The aim of this study is to search the competitiveness of eight Turkish Coal Enterprises (TCE) companies and to specify the factors affecting competitiveness. In the study; first, a general production model for the production TCE companies is generated by using panel data regression analysis and the effective production factors in lignite production are determined by this model. The `key value? concept is introduced. It is related to the differentiation of the actual production amount and the forecasted production amount calculated by the general production model. The basis of key value is the general production model. A ranking of the competitiveness among companies is obtained regarding to key values. Then, some factors related to production and to lignite quality are determined which may effect the competitiveness ranking of the companies. The possible effectiveness of these factors are investigated by correlation analyses. As a result of the analyses, it is found out that thermic sales ratio and reserves of the companies are effective in determining the competitiveness of TCE companies.Key Words : TCE, panel data analysis, competitiveness.
