Özet

In Turkey and in the other countries the cooperatives have begun to become units that steer the national economies. Amongst the cooperatives, the agricultural cooperatives have a determinant significance in rural settlements, as a large part of the revenues consists of the agriculture and agriculture based industry. The economic competition, the bureaucratic impediments, the legislative regulations and finally, the globalization have deep impacts on cooperatives. Therefore, in this thesis, the cooperatives are discussed in the framework of neo-classical and new institutional economics approaches. Taking into account the development of cooperatives on a global scale both in terms of theoretical and practical dimensions, two forms of agricultural cooperatives -different from the global examples - have been included. In the section of the case study, the current situation, the structure, the activities and the membership of the Agricultural Development Cooperatives in Diyarbakir and the other farmer organizations have been examined and the success/failure risks of the Agricultural Development Cooperatives in Diyarbakır have been analysed. In the view of success planes and criteria specified at the end of the case study, it has been emphasized the necessity to build a model of alternative community economy and discussed how to draw a road map for this model. The study has been finalized by a conclusion chapter.Key words: Agriculture, Agricultural Cooperatives, Agricultural Development Cooperatives, Diyarbakir.
