Parasitic infections remain importance as a public health problem in underdeveloped and developed countries. It is indicated that such diseases are more frequently seen in societies where hygiene and sanitation rules are not sufficiently enforced, which is related to the socio-economic level, educational status and cultural conditions of the society. In Turkey the diseases of gastro-intestinal system caused by parasitic diseases take place in the first place while changing according to the local development level and lifestyles of the society. In this study, parasitic factors were investigated with direct microscopy method in stool specimens taken from children aged 0-6 years admitted to Gaziantep University Şahinbey Research Hospital and Gaziantep Children's Hospital between June-September 2016 with complaints of diarrhea and compared with demographic characteristics. For this purpose, 99 female and 99 male patients between 0-6 years old who were admitted to University and Children's Hospital with complaints of diarrhea were included in the study. 48 patients (24.24%) were collected from the university hospital and 150 (75.75%) from the Children's Hospital.14 (7.07%) of 198 patients were found infected with intestinal parasites. Entamoeba histolytica/dispar was found in 6 (42.85%) and Giardia intestinalis in 8 (57.14%) of these patients. Parasites were found in 5 of the males (35.71%) and in 9 of the females (64.28%). When physical examination findings of the children were evaluated, it has been detected that 39 (19.69%) had fever, 42 (21.21%) vomiting, 25 (12.62%) nausea and 20 (10.1%) abdominal pain. When the macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of the gaita samples were examined, it was found that the vast majority of these samples were yellow-green, the majority of them were only juicy and mucous in quality, leukocyte or erythrocyte were found in 33% of the samples. In conclusion; in this study, the proportion of intestinal parasites in diarrheal children between 0-6 years in Gaziantep is one of the major health problems, even though parasitic diseases are lower compared to the national data. In addition to improving the socio-economic level, it is seen that this problem can be solved by educating the families in cooperation with the health personnel and teaching personal and environmental cleaning rules.

Hastaların 48'i (%24.24) Üniversite hastanesi, 150'si (%75.75) Çocuk hastanesinden toplanmıştır.
