Özet

In this study, the place and importance of service trade in the economic growth process is studied. In literature, major theorical and practical studies related to this topic reveal that service trade has positive effect on economic growth. In Turkey while studying the effect of service trade on economic growth, Cobb- Douglas production function which is extended in the production function framework, has been taken as basis. In Turkey between 1974-2011 the direction and size of the relation between the traditional (tourism) and modern (insurance and finance) service trade and economic growth was studied via time series analysis. In this part, not only multivariate cointegration and vector error correction model prediction but also error correction developed Granger causality tests were also done.According to cointegration test results, in the long term economic growth is affected positively by traditional service trade and modern service trade. The results of vector error correction model support the long term analysis results. It was concluded that in terms of Turkey, the positive effect of traditional service export on economic growth both in the short and long term is greater than the positive effect of modern service export. Accordingly it can be stated that Turkey is in developing countries position in terms of international service trade. On the other hand, results of causality test show that in Turkey, there is a bilateral causality between economic growth and traditional and modern service trade.
